I just thought I’d do a quick update now that we’ve arrived in the Basque country. We’re in Vitoria-Gasteiz for the Long Distance Triathlon World Championships on Sunday. We got here on Tuesday night and spent today exploring the town. It’s scorching. I went for a run at 7am this morning and there were tons of people in the streets still partying from the night before, bars were still open. Crazy stuff. Today was some sort of garlic festival through the streets, loads of stalls heaped with garlic.
Anyway, just back from a bike ride up into the hills, sweltering heat but good to be out on the bike. There’s other triathletes arriving now and the opening ceremony is on Friday night with course practice on Saturday and then the race starts on Sunday morning. Here’s a link to the handbook so you can see what’s happening.
Becky and Maurice will get bused around to see the action and finish up in the main square where the run starts, it goes through 4 laps, and finally finishes back in the square. Forecast is actually for a cooler weekend which will make for a fast race.
There’s TV coverage on the ETBk TV Channel, whatever that is, and there’s a live feed through the race website http://www.triathlonvitoria.com
Hoping for a good race, I’ll post an update on Sunday night. We’re back on Tiree on Wednesday 1st August so gym sessions will kick off the following week.
