Last weekend I finished off the triathlon season with the Highland Warrior Triathlon up at Fort William. This served as the Scottish Middle Distance Championships, so prize money up for grabs and the title of Scottish Champ.
The day opened with a 1.9km swim in a very choppy Loch Linnhe. I missed the start and didnt swim very well either so came out of the water in 30th place and 6mins down on the leader. Onto a freezing cold 56mile bike; arm warmers or a rain jacket would have been nice but I’d not got either so I shivered around trying to keep the pace up to keep warm and managed to work my way up to 9th place coming back into transition. The half marathon run was going to be hills and mostly off road, and running out of transition the legs felt great. Things started to look up and the sun came out, well it got less rainy anyway, and I managed to run into a decent position finishing the run in 1hr24. Running over the line through the tape and sprayed with champagne, what???? Becky is telling me I’ve won it?? No way. Shows how much I was paying attention! Delighted, finished the season with a win and Scottish Champ title. Excellent, couldnt have asked for more. Somehow managed to pull back all those places with the 2nd fastest bike of the day and fastest run. Thanks to the No Fuss team for a great event and Becky and Maurice for superb race support. I’m now having a week off training and then looking forward to getting some winter miles in. Bring on those crisp clear wintery days.
