The Tiree 10k & Half Marathon is an annual event on the Hebridean island of Tiree. Known for its un-spoilt beaches, clean air, sunshine, crystal waters and relaxed pace of life – Tiree is a fantastic place to come and run. We welcome all abilities whether you walk, jog, run, or race for a podium spot. Tiree is about enjoying the outdoors, the challenge of the race, encouraging each other, and embracing the stunning Hebridean environment you’re about to run through.
Under 16’s events: There will be beach running events for kids at 1pm and their prize giving will take place on the beach straight after the run. All runners get a medal and there are prizes for top finishers as well as spot prizes. Sign up is on the day at registration.
Chocolates & Charms Cafe: This is open in the hall all day on Saturday and will be serving loads of tasty bites to fuel up before, and re-fuel after. Runners and spectators welcome!
Evening Dance: Doors open 8pm. “The best dance of the year!” Tickets available at registration and throughout the day. Priority given to runners. This really is one of the best nights of the year, and it usually sells out so get your tickets early. There’s a licensed bar so entry to the dance is for ages 14 and over (any under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult).
Prize presentation: On the beach after top finishers are in and at the hall in the evening.
The Tiree 10k & Half Marathon started in 2006 and has grown to be a much anticipated event on the island calendar. Visiting runners are welcome along with local residents and we’ve had people travel from as far as Slovakia and Brazil just to do the race. The atmosphere is friendly and continues into the night with the legendary dance at An Talla. There’s a prizegiving on the beach as well as in the evening with prizes for top overall results, age groups, teams and some spot prizes.
Getting to Tiree: If you’re not sure how to get to Tiree then have a look at the About page on this website. There’s a ferry service from Oban and a plane from Glasgow which both arrive on Saturday with sufficient time for you to get to the start line. There’s a return service on Sunday.
Travel on Tiree: Bike Hire is available through Tiree Fitness – definitely book in advance. There’s also a Ring n Ride bus service and car hire available – details and maps at www.isleoftiree.com. Tiree is only 11 miles long, it’s fine on bikes but it’s a long walk from the pier, especially if you’re saving energy for the run!
Walking: You’re encouraged to run at your own pace and if that means walking a bit then that’s fine. Walkers are welcome but if you intend to walk the entire distance we would ask that you enter the 10k event. The event has been really popular with walkers and it adds to the whole atmosphere of the day and means that everyone is in good company and nobody is left behind.
What do I get for finishing? You get an event T-Shirt, medal, a goody bag and chance to win some spot prizes. There’s prizes for top 3 finishers and age group winners. Prizes come from Tiree’s artists, potters, chocolatiers and jewellers – there’s no cheap plastic trophies!
Can I run with a dog? Unfortunately not. We have a strict no dog policy, simply because the event passes through open grazing land at a time of year when livestock are likely to react to the presence of dogs, so understandably it’s not something we can allow.
Cancellations: If you’ve entered but can no longer make it to the event please let us know. Our refund and cancellation policy is below. If you’d like to transfer your entry to somebody else they need to get their name on the waiting list and we’ll send them an invite. Once accepted we’ll send you a refund (minus £5 admin fee).
