Sprint distance means a 750m swim, 20km bike, and then a 5km run. Add to this some killer hills and you have a grueling event. Taking on this challenge was Tiree’s Joe Kavanagh, who opted to join the seasoned triathletes in the main event rather than the friendlier ‘come and tri’ event. In at the deep end. Literally. Joe’s swim was excellent, his technique was solid and never faltered. He looked strong right to the end and exited the pool looking focused ready for T1. Now we practiced Joe’s transitions in my gym and got it down to under a minute; with the theme tune to Superman on in the background it was quite a sight for the neighbours.
A calm and collected T1 saw Joe onto the hilly bike course, quick change off the bike in T2 and then onto more hills on the run. Joe’s finishing time was 2hrs23.
A great performance from Joe and certainly one to celebrate given that Joe has given encouragement to so many others.
Joe will be training at Boot Camp during the winter which is on Saturdays at 9:30am at An Talla – join him there!
