On their first outing the newly established Team Tiree won the team prize at the inaugural Mull Cyclo-Sportive; a 42 or 85 mile cycle around the Isle of Mull. Representing Tiree were Gordon Scott, Joe Kavanagh, Robert Trythall and Will Wright, together with a few honorary members from further afield (Stevie, Andy and Mark).
The roads on Mull are not too dissimilar from Tiree; single track quiet roads with stunning views. However, one big difference is the hills; and there were a lot of them! Starting at Tobermory the course took an instant bearing upwards with a killer climb to start the day. What followed was a long ride up and down with some brutal gradients to finish off the legs. The Team did Tiree proud with all members finishing the course and also gaining to fastest time of the day for 85 miles (4hrs23). I would also volunteer that we won the best dressed team in our new kit, thanks to our sponsors Go Lower, Active Schools, MacLennan Motors and Bernard Smith. The kit is now available to all Team members.
So an exciting start for Team Tiree and hopefully this should gather some momentum as the summer finally arrives. We’ve put together a programme of training and events for summer so come along and join the Team. See the Team Tiree page for further details.
